Note: Below is a guideline of how the rules and information that follow should be thought of. Along with the people you are riding next to, please race and ride the 24 Hours in the Sage with these in mind.
- Race Safe: No one needs to get hurt. It is a long race-don't risk not finishing or, worse yet, preventing someone else from finishing. For example: pass slower racers with care. Let them know that you are there and which side you would like to pass on.
- Race Fair: In other words, no cheating. Would the racer next to you have a problem with what you may be doing? If in doubt ask. Also, think of where you are riding. Stay on the course; DO NOT short-cut. Racing fair also means being polite. Discourteous and offensive behavior could get you disqualified from the event.
- Race Hard: Give it all you have without compromising the other rules.
- Have Fun: This rule needs no explanation. Bottom line, this is why we are all here.

are allowed but you must have a coaster brake. (added 2008).
All classes will be an "Open" format. In other words, there are no ability or age categories. Please keep this in mind when registering.
Note: 24 hour mountain bike racing is not necessarily a beginner sport. Although the rules don't state "No beginner level riders" please make a good choice and assess your skills carefully.
- The Start will be Le-Mans style, meaning the racers must run to their bikes from the starting line.
- A team completing a lap before 11:00 am may go out for one more. This lap will be counted unless finished after 12:45pm
- Results are posted at 1:00 with an hour of review
- Awards to start at 2:00pm sharp
- Team Captains are responsible for any correspondence with race officials and making sure their team is following the rules. TEAM CAPTAINS are also responsible for attending the pre-race meeting, although the meeting is recommended for all racers.
- Support is defined as the act of helping another teammate or rider by means of offering food, water, mechanical, and possibly medical assistance. Support on or off the course can be provided by anyone, teammate or not. Let's not make this one complicated. This rule means someone can give you a tool, or a part; some water and food (please give it to someone who needs it) This does not mean riding in the back of "Billy Bob's" pickup, or drafting support while on the road section (let's be reasonable).
- All race numbers provided must be displayed in the proper spots at all times. This will be covered in the pre-race meeting.
- Racers pushing bikes must yield to those riding. When overtaking another racer please use good judgment and pass with care. Although a slower rider does not have to stop, please find a safe spot to yield as soon as possible. Remember to be nice. It is not worth the aggravation over the few seconds you may gain or lose. Talk to each other and say "passing on your left/right", or, "When you get a chance. "Please" and "Thank You" are also good words to use.
- Short cutting will not be tolerated and is grounds for disqualification.
- Local City, County, State and Federal laws will be followed at all times. Be aware that there is an open container law. No booze in the streets please.
- Protests shall be made by the Captain of each team in writing any time during the race or within 30 minutes of the final results posting. There is no fee, however, whining will not be tolerated.
- Quiet Hours shall be observed from midnight Saturday to 8 am Sunday. Stipulations of this will be covered during the pre-race meeting.
- Each team shall provide adequate lighting with at least a 10 watt power and a back up in the form of a flashlight or other lighting system. It is also mandatory that a taillight be used. Causing someone else to wreck and get hurt because your light is off is not O.K. and grounds for disqualification. If you are found without a lighting system while on the course, lap penalties will be enforced. Racing without lights at night to save batteries or racing on an empty battery is dangerous and done at the racers own risk.
- It is each team's responsibility to keep track of their own times and verify what is being written in the log by race officials. This means making sure your log out name, time, and bib number are written down correctly.
- There are no individual lap requirements however, if one of your teammates or a partner does not pull their share of laps people will look at them funny (just kidding).
- If a racer stops to assist another rider who is hurt an average lap time will be calculated for that racer and the subsequent logged teammate will be allowed on the course at that designated time. The assistance must be verified by the team being helped.
- Each team does have the option to cancel a lap if their racer is "lost" or M.I.A. The canceled lap does not count towards number of laps completed and cannot be rescinded once enacted. The new racer will receive the log-in time of the racer whose lap was canceled.
- If your team wants to substitute a rider, race officials have the right to deny all requests. However, every reasonable effort to accommodate a team's request will be made. Whiners will be charged a $10 fee for substitution requests.
- "The Finish" is what makes a 24 hour mountain bike race event. This is where the action is! It is important to remember that a team that logs their last lap just before noon on Sunday and does not send a rider out for another lap before 12:05pm will be marked as D.N.F. (did not finish). If a rider is going to finish before noon and the team does not want to complete another lap, wait to cross the finish line until 12:00, or your team will be forced to take one more lap. Otherwise, it is the most laps that wins.
- Final judgment regarding race safety, rules, proceedings and results are in the hands of Race Directors and Officials. Every effort will be made to be prompt and fair with decisions and judgments. In the case of a catastrophic event Race Directors and Officials have the right to make decisions as to whether the race continues. The first and foremost objective is to keep racers and spectators reasonably safe while at the event.
- Remember to Race Safe, Race Fair, Race Hard, and Have Fun.
